TEF Online Contest – The triplicity contest – A Sustainable city break

INSIGNARE’s Fátima Hospitality School, Portugal – 3 students, 2 teachers

IUS / High School of Catering and Tourism – 3 students, 2 teachers

ORIZON, Greece – 3 students, 2 teachers

The goal of the contest was to organize a triple city break tourist package, in the regions where partner schools are in - Fátima, Kalamata and Sarajevo -, designed by students, in which they will include sustainable (environmental, economic, social) experiences, or urban, regenerative, leisure, gastronomy, sport, and using digital tools.

After an online meeting between the coordinating teachers in each School, the rules were discussed, agreed and transmitted to the students: they should research, design and propose, for a 3 day period, a city break tourist package that had:

  • A clearly defined customer type;
  • All the travel involved - from their home city to the city they are assigned, choosing public transport and, if possible, sustainable ones;
  • Accommodation adapted to the customer type;
  • Local gastronomy (one typical / traditional meal / dish per day)
  • Leisure (one morning and one afternoon activity / landmark one must see, and why, per day)

There was an electronic draw, to assign the cities to the teams: Fátima went to the Greek students; Kalamata to the Bosnians; and Sarajevo to the Portuguese.

The two online sessions took part on May 15th and 16th, and each took one hour. TEAMS was the chosen platform. Each team had a maximum of 15 minutes to present their work, and then 5 minutes for their peers’ assessment.

The three packages were created, presented, and assessed by the students’ peers. Besides the technical part and the respect for the rules – both correct – students were asked to evaluate the learning activity, as well as teachers.

All the teams liked the experience very much, emphasizing the autonomy, the digital work, the peer evaluation, and, above all, the fun they felt while learning.
